5 ways to overcome post-holiday inertia
Or, how to get back to work between projects
In early December, I basked in the launch of two new books. Rapid Novel: How to write a 50,000-word novel in 5 days, and a novel, A Cowboy for All Seasons. Although it was an exciting time, I was so ready for a vacation afterward.
I got all my ducks in a row, such as scheduling some posts for my clean romance reader Facebook group, then spent two weeks over Christmas in the Philippines.
Now I’m back and I’m struggling to get into the rhythm of my work as a self-employed author. Which is a bit problematic because Secret Royal and the Rodeo Cowboy is due to my editor in two weeks.
Here are some things that have worked for me to overcome vacation intertia (or after taking a well-deserved break between projects).
Get up at sunrise. On vacation, despite late nights, I got up almost every morning to watch the sunrise. After the trip, the husband and I would read the scriptures then I’d go back to sleep. I chalked it up to jet lag. Until it was no longer a legit reason.
Now I stay up, feed the dog, and make the bed. Scrolling through my social media feed while in bed is a sure set-up for time-wasting.
Get back into a routine. I walk the dog. Put away clean dishes in the kitchen. Organize…
